Removed from theaters shortly after its 1973 release, Ivan Dixon's The Spook Who Sat by the Door's narrative and production history mark the film as a "radical" text. This article analyzes the way in which the film's historical displacement can productively be situated and read against interrelated spatiotemporal moments of Black history and cultural production.
