Not always were the suburbs of the night so vast and the movements of the eyes so tenuous.
Not always not always were the signs of pain so blurred nor the footfalls so faint.
The hollowness of the word enacts the duration of memory imaginary texture of a strange and familiar desire.
In the suburbs of the night my illusions dwell and on the fringes of the real a drunken voice hallucinates slaughtering the intrusion of time.
History is nothing but fabulation. Memory is always an invasion of the void.
And the suburbs of the night are webbed in the interspace of alleys in the relics and ruins of the future in the figures of oblivion flaring shadows under the luminaries.

Nem sempre os subúrbios da noite foram assim tão vastos e os movimentos dos olhos assim tão tênues.
Nem sempre nem sempre os signos da dor figuraram só brumas e o sossobrar dos passos acanharam-se tanto.
Os vazios do verbo encenam os tempos da memória tessitura imaginária de estranho e familiar desejo.
Nos subúrbios da noite minha ilusão bordeja e nas franjas do real uma fala ébria se alucina e chacina a intrusão do tempo.
Toda história é sempre sua invenção. Qualquer memória é sempre uma invasão do vazio.
E os subúrbios da noite tecem-se no intervalo dos becos nas relíquias e ruínas do futuro nos edifícios da desmemória que produzem sombras sob as luminárias.

She is a specialist in comparative African-American and African-Brazilian theater.
