Poverty and Terrorism in Africa: The Debate Continues

While poverty is not the root cause of terrorism, it is one of a myriad of factors that contributes to the progression of terrorism in sub-Saharan Africa, especially domestic terrorism. Poverty has contributed to an environment that has enabled terrorist organizations to draw support. Supporting poverty reduction in sub-Saharan Africa is the right thing to do for a number of reasons, regardless of its minimal benefits in the fight against terrorism.
