Abstract

The manuscript of La Reyna Ester of Felipe Godínez (1585-1659) is of great value to critics interested in Lope's converso followers. The actor's copy is found in the Biblioteca Nacional and is unique. It is not the same play as his more famous and widely praised Aman y Mardoqueo. The 1613 play was partly responsible for his 1624 Inquisitional trial in Seville because of its theological content. I briefly discuss the scene responsible for Godínez's condemnation. (AG)
