Letter to the Editor Dr. Moores's Response Dear Mr. Warnow: Thank you for the letter and questions you submitted to the American Annals of the Deaf. Our publication is a professional journal dedicated to quality in education and in related services to deaf and hard of hearing children and adults. As with other such journals, the Annals does not conduct studies by itself. Rather, we encourage manuscript submissions from professionals with a wide range of interests and perspectives. We have a core of more than 30 highly qualified reviewers who evaluate manuscripts for us. The Annals advocates no formal position, per se, on issues such as school placement, technology, modes of communication, or curriculum. Rather, it is a forum for the exchange of ideas and information. I have reviewed our files and find no record that any manuscript has ever been submitted explaining the "Voice" method of reading/writing instruction or presenting research on it. If you would care to do so, it will be reviewed by people qualified in the appropriate areas. Your last paragraph concerns Gallaudet University and not the Annals, so I will have to switch hats and respond as a faculty member. No, it not true that a protocol exists on campus preventing anyone from even mentioning the words, "Voice equipment." That would be a violation of constitutional rights as well as academic freedom.
