30:3, Reviews, Briefer Mention, Books Received ity of modem theory. BelUng the Derridean cat seems to be the ultimate project of his book. In the end Felperin recommends an eclectic approach. He advocates using reader-response, feminist, and Lacanian psychoanalytical methods in conjunction with mainstream schools to avoid a "sectarian" institution that "tyrannizes the reader." Interestingly, a deconstractionist would see this final solution as the "scandal" in Felperin's text. Felperin's eclecticism embarrasses the very thesis of his text: he grants a certain power to these peripheral critical methods, but only after having denied these very methods a place in his book. Ironically, then, the strength of Felperin's Beyond Deconstruction kes in his playfully meticulous examination of the various mainstream theories "beyond" which he does not go. Selected and Edited with Notes and a Bibliography by Brace Morris. Edinburgh: Tragara Press, 1986. Paper £12.50 Says Professor Morris of this 50-page work: "My chief Ï• υφοβÎμ then is to collect within a single volume all of the translations from the Poésies published by Symons during his own lifetime together with the best of the previously inaccessible material at Princetion. Now a modem reader will be able to enter the same 'labyrinthe illuminé par des fleurs' Yeats explored in his youth and perhaps discover there 'a serene and gem-like quality' Symons believed fulfilled the highest ideal of the intérieur school of French Symbolist poetry ." This volume, published in a limited edition of 150 copies, is beautifully printed and certainly should be of keen interest to students of Symons. It may be obtained by writing A. A.
