This essay examines Frances Hodgson Burnett’s A Little Princess (1905) and the Warner Brothers 1995 film adaptation of this story (directed by Alfonso Cuarón) to expose the cinematic ease with which a British imperial tale provides the psychic and material resources for an uplifting multicultural narrative set in the US.
