Kuhle Wampe and the Problem of Corporal Culture

Abstract: Kuhle Wampe both thwarts and fosters visceral spectator response, and this tension suggests the limits of the collective body culture the film envisions. Specifying these limits deepens our insight into the politics of the body in the Weimar Republic and the general relationship of corporality and ideology.
