My main goal is simply to reinterpret schizophrenia and certain closely related forms of
pathology (the so-called schizophrenia spectrum of illnesses, which also includes schizoid
and schizotypal, and some forms of schizophreniform and schizoaffective, disorders); to
show, using the affinities with modernism, that much of what has been passed off as
primitive or deteriorated is far more complex and interesting—and self-aware—than is
usually acknowledged.
