Abstract
BACKGROUND
Clinical trials are a critical resource for the discovery of new life-saving drugs and for developing better prevention, diagnostic, and treatment methods for disease. The majority of today's most effective prevention and treatment modalities are based upon previous clinical trials results. However, many groups are underrepresented in clinical trials, including racial/ethnic minorities, those with low income, the elderly, women, the disabled, the uninsured, and those who live in rural areas. Unfortunately, these populations also bear a disproportionate burden of disease. Citation 1
