This volume canvases a range of social issues that are significant for a better undestanding
of the experiences and social environment of Maori and highlight the need to ensure
research-based solutions to the challenges presently faced. While a number of the chapters
play the important role of contextualising Maori experience, the majority of the contributions
engage with social problems. However, this is not a call to a return of deficit research. Rather
it is an opportunity to provide power-centred, Maori-centred perspectives and solutions.
