In 1927, Minot and Murphy 1 drew attention to the striking gain in body weight observed in
patients with addisonian pernicious anemia who were given liver therapy, and this
observation has been borne out by the majority of subsequent reports. This gain in weight
occurs whether whole liver or liver extract is used. Meulengracht and Holm 2 recently
analyzed a series of thirty-six cases, with special reference to the gain in body weight, and
