This article presents the results of a doctoral thesis submitted by the author at the
Department of Museum Studies in Leicester (Gazi 1993). The study had a double aim: first,
to provide a critical insightinto the way the Greek archaeological heritage was presented
through Greek museum displays" of the period 1829-1909; and second, to outline the history
