Methods In order to apply the same classification method in households with and without
children, we used only the ten adult-referenced items, as suggested in Wilde. A household
was classified as" food insecure" if it answered three or more items affirmatively. It would be
worthwhile in future work also to address how FSP participation affects hunger status. A
household was classified as" food insecure with hunger" if it answered six or more items
affirmatively.
