Enter the matrix! Considering the communication needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing

SR Easterbrooks, SK Baker - Teaching Exceptional Children, 2001 - journals.sagepub.com
According to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Amendments of 1997,
students' individ ualized education programs (lEPs) must now contain a written statement of
how the IE? committee considered the com munication needs of each student who is deaf or
hard of hearing. This is a won derful addition to the requirements for appropriately serving
students with hearing losses because it brings impor tant questions to the attention of those
unfamiliar with the field. Unless done well, however, such a statement will miss the mark of …

Enter the Matrix: What the new brain-computer interfaces teach us about agency, privacy, and human subjectivity

B Dueck - The iJournal: Student Journal of the University of …, 2021 - theijournal.ca
Within the last decade, the global brain-computer interface (BCI) industry has experienced
significant economic growth and captured the public's imagination through enthusiastic
coverage in the popular media. Responding dialectically to this growing public discourse,
this paper overviews the social, ethical, and philosophical aspects of BCIs that pose the
greatest concern for information policymakers. By reading the industry's techno-economic
trends against contemporary critical philosophy, I argue that these technologies enable new …

Enter the matrix: more than just filling space, the extracellular matrix affects human health

R Lewis - The Scientist, 2004 - go.gale.com
Appreciation in biology can come slowly. Researchers once deemed as junk the parts of
genes not represented in proteins; likewise, neuroglia were thought to be mere bystanders
to neurons. So it is with the extracellular matrix (ECM), the" scaffolding" and" glue" that fill the
spaces among cells. New ways of excavating the ECM reveal that it is much more.An
eclectic collection of molecules, the ECM was once relegated to the backwater of connective
tissues in histology texts. But, ECM's status is shifting. Henry E. Young, an associate …

T Ben-Shahar, T Ben-Shahar - Happiness Studies: An Introduction, 2021 - Springer
In the previous chapter, I suggested that the twelve principles provide the design for the
structure that accommodates the field of happiness studies. My choice to use a building
metaphor to capture the role of the principles is purposeful: I'm attempting to create a home
for the interdisciplinary field of happiness studies.
