One of the gratifying aspects of developing and editing a volume is the synergy created by
bringing together authors from a variety of institutions and professional experiences. We
sought to incorporate the bottom-up and insider perspectives on the needs of graduate and

One of the gratifying aspects of developing and editing a volume is the synergy created by bringing together authors from a variety of institutions and professional experiences. We sought to incorporate the bottom-up and insider perspectives on the needs of graduate and professional students and the services designed to address those needs. To that end, several authors are practitioners working with graduate and professional students in student services roles, and several are either current graduate students or recent graduates. All are passionate advocates for graduate and professional students. The chapters flowed from these authors’ individual experiences. We were excited to find, then, several stated or implied commonalities across the chapters.
