Survival of 20-30 propagules per tree was recorded for 3 trees on the R. Klang, Malaysia.
Depending on tree position, 26-65% of the propagules penetrated the mud on falling, nearly
all of which survived. Only a fifth of those that became stranded at the surface survived,
whereas none of those that were dispersed by tides> 5 m away from the mother tree became
established. Results suggest that about 100 standards should be retained per ha during
clear felling, preferably young vigorous trees too small to influence the final yield.
