The screening of blood samples for haemoglobin variation in conjunction with glyoxalase typing

A retrospective survey of photographs of electrophoresis plates containing 4080 blood
samples for glyoxalase (GLO) typing showed 72 to have apparent vnts in the haemoglobin
(Hb) bands which are to be found cathodic to the origin. On the basis of information on race,
71 of the 72 had already been screened by conventional methods and found to possess a
haemoglobin variant. Analysis of the remaining sample showed it to be HbAS. These results
