This paper is a theoretical approach to videopoetry. The concept of videopoetry as distinct
from videoart came as the result of experimenting with video for creative and poetic
production using verbal and nonverbal signs in 1968. It was not until 1985 that I had the
opportunity to develop a new body of video work. Videopoetry soon became a new kind of
poetry in its own right, with its own grammar and semantics. Thus videopoetry is a challenge
