In A Decent Imitation

of end-times: nothing happens;
your people shuffle
room-to-room strip-
searching strangers with skill and total
affection
waking feeling great / in the morning-after
knowing the end
first appears ultra-normal—only
more so ::
the horizon rises
to an elevation approaching music—
a vista holding all
we’ve ever seen / ever
wanted to see
there: before
your very very eyes

In the Past that will be

when I lived before
in thin infinities of leaves—
before being fingered up
and fleshed—
I breathed inside the sun’s lungs
and bellowed like a flea
a small shadow to
the mass that blocks the overbearing sun;
still—a shadow
casts a shadow and so—
even then—I had to be at least
a theory of myself
and from the other room
I slipped inside
my swaddling clothes
and lay looking up
at the sort of people
I was certain
to become
