The collection of essays that form this special number of Bulletin of the Comediantes, dedicated to the social historian José Antonio Maravall and his impact on studies of early modern Spanish drama, had its origins in a 2011 MLA session, with papers by five of the authors represented here. We are extremely pleased to publish their work. I would like to thank Anna-Lisa Halling of the University of Southern Indiana for again taking charge of the reviews of the Chamizal Golden Age Drama Festival (El Paso, March 2013), and to editors Vincent Martin, Gwen Stickney, and Thomas A. O’Connor for their invaluable support.
