An earlier version of the lead article in this issue, by Robert Neville, was originally presented as a plenary address at the Sixth International Conference of the Institute for American Religious and Philosophical Thought, held in Pamplona, Spain in the summer of 2013. The theme of that conference was “Atlantic Crossings: Empiricism, Pragmatism, and Naturalism.” A version of Daniel Ott’s article on “Nonviolence and Moral Equivalency” was presented at a session of the Pragmatism and Empiricism in American Religious Thought Group, at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion in Baltimore last November.
