Editorial Notes

The big news this year is that the Yearbook has truly entered the electronic age. Beginning with Volume 66 (2004), all Yearbook articles are available online through Project MUSE, a searchable subscription service offered through the Johns Hopkins University Press. In addition, the journal is being indexed and/or abstracted in several other online publications. The benefits to APCG are twofold: first, readership of the Yearbook expands worldwide; and second, the Association will receive remuneration, although figures are not yet available. Our move to include the Yearbook in Project MUSE will no doubt increase the visibility of individual authors and, indeed, the entire Association.

The other news concerns the addition of a new member to the Editorial Board. I've been spoiled over the years in having Elliot McIntire available for face-to-face consultation on Yearbook matters. His recent retirement and move to Oregon, though, have meant that I no longer have him as a handy collaborator to ask advice of or bounce ideas off. In his place I've asked Antonia Hussey, chair in the Department of Geography here at CSUN, to join the Board so we can keep an "in-house" member. Geography, after all, does matter. However, I wish to take this opportunity to thank Elliot for his fine work over the years for the Yearbook. I would commonly place an article for review in his box in the morning and be told that "I'll get to it in a few days," and then find it in my box by early afternoon, carefully read and with detailed comments. Thank you, Elliot. And by the way, you're still on the Board, so no slacking!

While I'm at it, I wish to also thank the other Board members who continually strive to improve the quality of the Yearbook. I also extend a special thanks to David Dies, who provided a considerable amount of work on this volume toward improving the quality of graphics and even produced a map for one article. Finally, I wish to thank Rick Cooper for once again copyediting and laying out this volume of the Yearbook. Rick is an editor of the highest order; how he manages to produce such an excellent journal out of the tangle of text I send him is a mystery. His expertise, professionalism, and good humor in the face of my frequent foul-ups are very much appreciated.
