This section provides brief reviews and the tables of contents from two collections of scholarly essays published in Mexico in 2010, as part of that country's celebration of the two hundred year anniversary of Mexican Independence. The first volume analyzes Independence in the Spanish colonial world, while the second focuses on this era in the Mexican state of Michoacán.

This volume brings together the writings of distinguished Latin American, European, Canadian, and U.S. scholars in discussions of the wars of independence in Latin America. Originally presented at a conference in Mexico at Morelia, Michoacán, in June 1999 and published as part of the nation's 2010 bicentennial commemorations, the collected articles provide a solid overview of institutional, political, and social history. The book is useful as an introduction and guide to the leading researchers on this era, who represent scholarly communities in several nations. Thus, it is a commendable effort at transnational scholarly collaboration on a topic of interest to the general public as well as to professional historians. The table of contents is reproduced below. In addition to the entries therein, the book includes a general bibliography and indexes by name and place name.
