This volume is a second collection of essays published in 2010. The eight essays provide a thorough introduction to the era of Independence in the state of Michoacán. The text is richly illustrated with an array of maps, portraits, architectural sketches, documents, and other artifacts revealing regional cultural history. The quality of the scholarship is excellent and especially notable for its engagement with local and regional archives. The table of contents is reproduced below, the book also includes a bibliography, a list of illustrations, and an index by place names.
