It is with great pleasure that I return to the helm of Shakespeare Quarterly, taking over after four years from David Schalkwyk who—happily for us—remains affiliated with SQ as a member of the Editorial Board as he takes up a new position as Director of the Global Shakespeare project at Queen Mary, University of London and the University of Warwick. Remaining on the editorial staff are Ted Leinwand and Barbara Mowat, who will serve the journal invaluably as Consulting Editors, and Sarah Werner, who continues as Associate Editor with special responsibilities for performance and digital communication. Let me proclaim here that SQ would not see the light of day but for the remarkable talents and diligence of Mimi Godfrey as Managing Editor, and that we welcome the arrival of Anna Levine as Editorial Assistant. We rely as well on the good offices of Jessica Frazier and Nedda Mehdizadeh, both of George Washington University.

During his tenure, David Schalkwyk maintained the preeminence of SQ in the traditional fields of Shakespeare scholarship and expanded the intellectual horizons of the journal with several distinguished guest-edited and special issues. He enlarged our digital outreach in the form of the SQ Forum and built on a welcome global perspective formed during his years as Professor of English at the University of Cape Town.

As Editor of SQ, I intend to maintain this breadth of perspective and spirit of innovation as the journal looks to expand our audience and reach out to it digitally. The SQ Forum, currently on hiatus, will be reconfigured under the leadership of Sarah Werner as part of the Folger Shakespeare Library’s new Division, Digital Media and Publications, ably headed by Eric Johnson. SQ will continue to be hosted digitally by Project MUSE and JSTOR, two digital platforms that have made the journal widely available on a global scale to many thousands of scholars and students who read and download our articles every day.

As the journal confronts the myriad challenges facing all print publication in this age of digital revolution, we invite you, our readers, to inform us of new directions in Shakespeare scholarship, respond vigorously to the material you encounter in our pages, and let us know what changes in our scholarly coverage you would look to see. We welcome your submissions and look forward to hearing from you at sq@folger.edu. [End Page 395]
