HISTORICAL NEWS The Spring Meeting of Friends Historical Association was held, with the Friends Social Union, on Sunday, May 10th, 1970, at Westtown School, Westtown, Pa. After attendance at Westtown Meeting and a picnic lunch in the Westtown Cabin, Friends gathered in the meetinghouse. Kenneth Carroll, professor of religion at Southern Methodist University, spoke on "Quakerism in Maryland before George Fox's visit." Edwin B. Bronner, president of Friends Historical Association, was chosen also as the president for 1970 of our sister association in Great Britain, Friends Historical Society. On August 15 at the University of Exeter, he delivered his presidential address: " 'The Other Branch': Relationships between London Yearly Meeting and the Hicksites in the 19th Century." We note with deep regret the death of our long-time member, Gerald D. Macdonald, on May 6, 1970, in Paris. Gerald Macdonald, head of Special Collections at the New York Public Library, although not often fisted as a contributor to this journal, was a valuable member of the Historical Research Committee; his help in noting research and publication in Quaker history will be missed. 115 ...
