It has been, weather-wise, a spectacular month of October in northern Idaho. Warm, sunny days and cool evenings brought out some of the best fall foliage colors I can remember in my 30 years living in the state. But, those vivid colors are a reminder that this year is quickly coming to a close, and soon the gray days of winter will be here. With that, we close out Volume 14 of the Native Plants Journal. It is hard for me to believe the journal has been going that long … let me just say that I have gone through a lot of red ink! Keeping the journal relevant, on time, and of high quality takes a team. I would be remiss if I did not thank my associate editors, Diane Haase, Rosemary Pendleton, Deborah Rogers, Nancy Shaw, Daniela Shebitz, Steven Smith, and Sandra Wilson for their efforts. A special thank you to Jason Gray and his capable staff at the University of Wisconsin Press for their diligence and professionalism, and to Candace Akins, my trusted and dependable managing editor, without whom I would be lost.
