The Eudora Welty Society held its first organizational meeting in 1991. It functions as one of the single author societies in the American Literature Association and holds its annual meeting at the ALA conference. Society members receive newsletters, Pieces of News, and other information through the Eudora Welty Society listserv and meet at conferences across the [End Page 145] country to discuss all things Welty. The mission of the organization is to “to promote and assist Eudora Welty studies through the organization of conferences and special meetings, and to foster scholarship and academic community among Welty scholars.” Last year, we celebrated the Eudora Welty Centennial with a special conference in Jackson, Mississippi. This year, Welty Society members held meetings and socials at the Society for the Study of Southern Literature conference in New Orleans in April and at the American Literature Association in San Francisco in May.

The Phoenix Award of the Eudora Welty Society, most recently given to Harriet Pollack, rewards outstanding contributions to Welty studies. The society’s current officers are Mae Miller Claxton, President; David McWhirter, Vice-President; Michael Kreyling, Treasurer; and Carol Ann Johnston, Website Editor.

All interested readers of Pulitzer Prize-winning Eudora Welty are encouraged to join. Please visit our recently updated website at http://eudorawel-tysociety.org/ for further information, and click on Membership to join the Eudora Welty Society.
