International Conference on the Book

The Fifth International Conference on the Book will take place in Madrid from October 20 to 22, 2007. The theme of this year's conference is "Save, Change or Discard—Tradition and Innovation in the World of Books." Main speakers will include leading thinkers and innovators in the areas of publishing, editing, librarianship, printing, authorship, and information technologies, as well as numerous presentations by researchers and practitioners. Netherlands Conference on Orality and Literacy

The Eighth Biennial Conference on Orality and Literacy in the Ancient World will take place in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, from July 2 to 6, 2008. Papers addressing the key conference topics are invited: the use of oral performances or of written texts in Graeco-Roman religions, the representation of the divine in Greek and Latin literature, and sacred laws. North Carolina Conference on Comparative Literature

The Southern Comparative Literature Association will host a conference on the theme of "otherness" at North Carolina State University from September 27 to 29, 2007. Oxford Conference on Ancient Drama in Modern Opera

Sponsored by the Archive of Performances of Greek and Roman Drama, this multi-disciplinary conference will be held at the University of Oxford on July 12, 2007. The conference will focus on the influence of ancient drama in the first 200 years of opera's development (c. 1600–1800) and will draw speakers from the worlds of classics, modern languages, and music. South Carolina Conference on Plato

The University of South Carolina will hold an international and interdisciplinary conference on "Plato and Platonisms" from antiquity through the Middle Ages and Renaissance to the present. To be held from March 20 to 23, 2008, this conference will address such topics as analytic and continental philosophy, political and literary theory, aesthetics, poetics, rhetoric, and law. Virginia Conference on Ancient Historiography

The Department of Classics of the University of Virginia will host a conference entitled "Proxima Poetis: Ancient Historiography and the Imperial Latin Poets" from April 11 to 12, 2008.
