To Owsei Temkin
on his ninety-fifth birthday
with
very best wishes from
The Editors

The greeting [above] features Dr. Temkin’s bookplate, which comes to us through the kindness of Dr. William Helfand, a long-time member of the AAHM and friend of the Bulletin. The bookplate was one of many medical, pharmaceutical, and dental bookplates assembled by Samuel Radbill, a “dear and wonderful friend” of Dr. Helfand, who was able to purchase much of the collection after Dr. Radbill’s death. Most of the bookplates have been given to the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, where they are now known as the Helfand-Radbill Collection — but Dr. Helfand retained the bookplates of several notable physicians, including Dr. Temkin.

The editors also take this opportunity to thank the 175 reviewers of books and manuscripts for the Bulletin in 1997.
