Abstract

The data base called Teatro Español del Siglo de Oro (TESO, Chadwyck-Healey, 1997-2000, httn://teso.chadwyck.com) comprises nearly 900 sixteenth- and seventeenth-century dramatic works, including some 85 comedias and 60 autos by Calderón. The capacity to restrict the search to stage directions alone greatly facilitates the study of Golden Age staging, both at court and in the corrales. The present study illustrates Calderón's corral staging practices, use of the vestuario and tablados laterales, machinery, action above and below the stage, indications of stage position, theatrical terminology, etc.
