GSLIS professor, CCB affiliate, and former Bulletin reviewer Kate McDowell presents the work of nineteenth-century librarians who created the earliest national standards for children's librarianship by systematically using survey methods to understand the emerging field. Her research aims to understand the accomplishments of the past and connect it to the challenge of documenting and communicating the worth of the work done by youth services librarians in the present day and in the future.
