Call for Articles. "Perspectives on Evil and Human Wickedness." January 2004 Special Issue of Perspectives on Evil and Human Wickedness. Submissions should address how reconciliation and forgiveness are viewed by law, ethics, philosophy, psychology, literature, and other relevant disciplines and professions. How do individuals, groups, and societies attempt to surmount trauma and initiate the intricate process(es) of forgiveness and reconciliation? What hampers or aids such processes? How does art foreground issues related to reconciliation and forgiveness? Suggested topics include the forgivable and the unforgivable; narrativizing forgiveness; physical and psychological trauma; holocaust studies; refugee studies; transitional justice and regime change; forgiveness and criminal law; conflict resolution and reconciliation; truth and reconciliation commissions; reconciliation and forgiveness in literature; divorce and remarriage; or case studies on any aspect of the above. Contributions are solicited in the form of articles (under 6000 words), dialogues, creative pieces, book and media reviews, and personal reflections. Feedback and responses on material published by the journal are also sought. Call for Articles. "Writing by Canadian Jewish Women." Journal of Canadian Jewish Studies invites submissions that consider the poetry, prose, life writing, and creative non-fiction of Canadian Jewish women. Papers on women who have written in Yiddish, "lost" writers, well-known writers, and contemporary writers are welcome. Papers that draw on archival research are especially welcome. Papers should be approximately 4000 words in length, though shorter, note-length papers may be acceptable. Call for Papers. "Liberatory Poetics in Caribbean Writing: Gender and Nation Re-configurations." 9th International Conference of ACWWS. [End Page 573] Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. 18-23 May 2004. Papers should explore prevailing progressive narratives of island sovereignties, creolization, or gender equality. What do these narratives signal about differences or commonalities? Do they challenge, transform, or help to clarify the paradigms? How do they respond to their island contradictions? How do they reach out beyond differences to sister islands, despite differences of language, culture, social manners and behavior, and daily life practices? Suggested topics include iconicity, traditions, gendered (re)configurations; writing female subjectivity;liberatory poetics for the 21st century; Caribbean crossings: canons, language, genre, and transnationalisms; film and women's participation; theater and women's authorships and participation; women writers as intellectuals; identity and family re-formulations; Caribbean women's diasporic texts and rereadings; reggae, Rastafarian, and others as cultural aesthetics; Voudou, Santeria, Shango, Pocomania/Kumina, and other belief systems; place/displacement/exile; resistance vs. reinscription; contemporary travel literature. All papers must represent new, previously unpublished work. We also invite panel topics and workshops, and proposals from performative artists.
