Abstract

When Arthuriana made the move from Southern Methodist University to Purdue, the journal took up residence in Room 419 of Heavilon Hall. This is significant, because for many years this was the office of Professor Thomas H. Ohlgren, scholar of Old English literature and art, medieval iconography, and the legend of Robin Hood. Professor Ohlgren's contributions to the study of the Middle Ages are many and include the founding of the Medieval Studies program at Purdue—which he oversaw for more than two decades as chair of the program. Perhaps his most enduring contribution to the field, however, is the incredible slide collection of images from medieval manuscripts that he amassed over the course of his career. Numbering well over 20,000, the images Tom collected, organized, and cross-referenced in a massive printed index are a unique and invaluable resource that have served as the basis for numerous seminars on iconography, graduate student research projects, and visual aids for faculty teaching medieval subjects.
