THE CONTRIBUTORS William R. HANDLEY is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Southern California. He has recently completed a study of marriage and nation in twentieth-century western American literature , and is co-editing, with Nathaniel Lewis, an essay collection that explores the problem of authenticity in the West's cultural history. frank HERiNC recently received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida. He currently teaches American literature at an independent secondary school in Virginia and writes about issues of reform in nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature. Barry laca, Assistant Professor of English at Mesa State College, has published on the writings of Gerald Vizenor in American Indian Quarterly and on films by Ethan and Joel Coen in Postmodernism in the Cinema.
