Otra de las aportaciones de esta colecci ón de ensayos estriba en la apertura hacia otras perspectivas y postulados epistemológicos, al reconstruir espacios discursivos y teóricos en los cuales el sujeto minoritario rescata sus propias experiencias y afirma sus diferencias en cuanto al género , sexo, etnia y orientación sexual, de manera en que lo expone Homi Bhabha en sus discursos poscoloniales. En conclusión, esta colección de ensayos contribuye al estudio del sujeto minoritario y su identidad, tomando en cuenta la complejidad de los intersricios sociales y cultuiales y la heterogeneidad misma de los sujetos minoritarios. In Chicano literature such an approach has produced legendary results, such as Interview with Chicano Authors edited by Juan Biuce Novoa duiing die most intense period of the Chicano Renaissance. While that book included only Chicano wiiteis, not Chicanas, it established standards for the genre. Latina Self-Portaits is a book diat succeeds in filling the existing literary void, regarding intetviews , in the panorama of Latina literature. The writers selected represent a wide socio-cultural spectrum that includes the Chicano, Cuban, Dominican and Puerro Rican experiences. Divided into ten chapters, each of which contains an interview with a single author, the book includes the notable writers Julia Alvarez, Denise Chavez, Sandra Cisneros, Rosario Ferre, Cristina Garcia, Nicholasa Mohr, Cherrie Moraga, Judith Ortiz Cofer, Esmeralda Santiago and Helena Maria Viramontes . The book also includes a historic-literary introduction about the apparition and development of Latina literature and its current context in terms of the literary topography in which said literature should be considered. Once again thete arises the traditional set of problems rhat accompanies this literary boom: canon, identity, bilingualism, colonialism , post-colonialism. The editors recognize three fundamental objectives of the book: to study Latina literature and how it has been forged from the point of view of the writers interviewed, to indicate how Latina aurhors have enriched the feminist panorama, and to ascertain how these writers handle the art of writing.
