Jim McWilliams has announced a call for essays for a volume he will edit on the present state and the future of African American literature (Locust Hill Press). All topics are welcome; questions that might be explored include the following: What should be the role of history and nonfiction in African American novels? What distinguishes African American literature in a multicultural society? Is there a black aesthetic? What is the responsibility of white critics to African American literature? Why is spirituality (Christian, Muslim, or Buddhist) important in African American literature? Essays must be unpublished and follow MLA style. Contributors will receive two copies of the published book.
