II• Educational Programs for Deaf Students 1. Schools and Programs in the United States 2. Schools and Programs in Canada 3. Postsecondary Programs Schools and Programs in the United States DiTRODUCTION Information on schools and programs for deaf children and youth in the United States is provided in three sections. For this year, the sections are: 1. Directory Listing for 1991-92 (page 103)—includes program name, address, telephone number, and administrator. 2. Programs and Services Chart for 1991-92 (page 140)— information on each of the programs in the directory including program type (residential/day; tuition/no tuition), number of students enrolled, services offered (e.g., parent-infant program, continuing education), and communication modes used in the classroom. 3. Summary Data (page 168)—summary data on hearing-impaired children in the United States as reported to the 1990-91 Annual Survey of Hearing Impaired Children and Youth. This section replaces the former Tabular Summary of Schools and Classes in the United States. The first two sections present data collected in a special Annals Reference Issue survey, conducted in October/November 1991, by the Center for Assessment and Demographic Studies (CADS) at Gallaudet University for the 199192 school year. The third section presents data collected by CADS as part of their Annual Survey for the 1990-91 school year, with selected analyses specifically for this Reference Issue. 102 AADIREFERENCE 1992 Vol. 137, No. 2 Schools and Programs for Deaf Students in the U.S.__________ DIRECTORY LISTING This listing provides directory information on U.S. schools and programs for preschool, elementary, and secondary children who are deaf or otherwise hearing impaired.
