Abstract

Freshmen at Gallaudet College are now required to attend Psychology 111, a career development course offered through the College's Counseling and Placement Center. The course, taught by CPC staff, is an integral component of the College's Career Development Program.

The Career Development Program adopted by Gallaudet has five stages culminating with the student's entry into his or her chosen career field. Psychology 111, Freshman Orientation to Career Development, deals with the first two stages: career awareness and career exploration.

In designing the course, goals were established and tasks leading toward those goals were specified. In determining instructional strategies to achieve course tasks, use of a variety of media was appropriate including videotape, slide series, and transparencies.
