Comments, Questions, and Answers Letters to the Editor To the Editor: I'd like to add several resource materials to those mentioned by Stephen Barrett in his article "Assessments of Vision in the Program for the Deaf" October 1979. Public Service Programs of Gallaudet College (now The National Academy) published A Screening Program for Usher's Syndrome in 1978. The 27-page Dooklet provides school personnel with information about causes, symptoms, and characteristics of Usher's Syndrome; it also includes three simple tests that teachers, counselors, or other personnel in the school can use to screen students for Usher's Syndrome and as a basis for referral to ophthalmologists or other appropriate specialists. Public Service Programs also produced a 16mm film about Usher's Syndrome and a companion pamphlet (both called Usher's Syndrome : Retinitis Pigmentosa and Deafness) which, used in orientation programs, can alert school faculty and staff to behavioral cues of Usher's Syndrome in their students. Living with DeafBlindness : Nine Profiles, a 175-page book based on interviews with deaf-blind adults includes several individuals with Usher's Syndrome. It provides subjective accounts of the impact of Usher's Syndrome on school, family, social, and vocational areas of life. All these materials are available from Curriculum Development and Research, Division of Public Services, Gallaudet College, Kendall Green, Washington, D.C. 20002. Carol Yoken The National Academy Gallaudet College To the Editor: I would like to bring to your attention the existence of a new journal entitled, Ear and Hearing. This publication was originally the Journal of the American Auditory Society and though not designed specifically for our colleagues , will certainly contain items of interest to them. I have been asked by the editor, to do a section, entitled "Audiology Education and Rehabilitation." Since we are in the early stages, it is anticipated articles for this section will have a very short publication wait. I would be interested in receiving articles, reports, and reviews that would have interest for or implications for the practicing audiologist. If you would bring this information to the attention of your readership, it would be appreciated. Please suggest that any inquiries be directed to me at the address below. Philip A. Bellefleur, Supt.
