About this Journal
Freedom Schools is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal that elevates the distinctive voices of historically Black colleges and universities in Texas and beyond, as well as research that touches upon themes of democracy defined as the work of everyone and experiences of civic agency that build a shared world. The journal explores the challenges of democracy rooted in civic capacity and community institutions and models for dealing with those challenges, by drawing inspiration from America's HBCUs.
