Peer Review Process

All articles published in Southeast of Now are subject to double-blind peer review by at least two experts in the field. The peer reviewers, who are selected and invited by the editorial collective, and/or by the guest editors, provide written advice on individual manuscripts. In general, peer reviewers will recommend that articles be published, or be published after making minor revisions, or be published after making major revisions, or be rejected but invited to resubmit after making major revisions, or be rejected.

We expect reviewers to be guided by ethical thinking outlined in the materials provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics or COPE. These simple guidelines are drawn from COPE's discussions and best practices, but we direct authors and reviewers to the COPE website for more information, case studies and more detailed guidelines.

  • Reviewers approached by journal editors should agree to review only if they can be unbiased in their assessment. They should exercise great care in ensuring that their assessments are unbiased and objective.
  • Reviewers should reveal any competing or conflicting interests should be declared to the editor seeking to commission your review.
  • If reviewers are aware of relevant published work which is not cited by an author, they should point out that work in their reviews.
  • Reviewers must respect the confidentiality of the peer review process and refrain from using information obtained during the peer review process for their advantage.
