The cover of each issue of the Journal of the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society highlights a building or location that is a significant part of the national heritage of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.

The current number features the Kong-Loon tin mine at Kamunting, Perak, c. 1880. Operated by Chung Keng Quee (Ah Quee), a well-known towkay and leader of the local Chinese community, it was the largest tin mine in Perak. The drawing appears as Plate V in a report by J. Errington de la Croix (Rapport á M.Le Ministre de L’Instruction publique et des Beaux-Arts), published in 1882 as "Les Mines d’étain de Pérak,Presqu’île de Malacca" (Paris: Imprimerie Nationale).
