Front Cover: The cover features the Istana Lama Seri Menanti (the Old
Seri Menanti Palace), located about 30 kilometres from
the city of Seremban in Negeri Sembilan. Constructed
between 1902 and 1908, the Istana was the residence
of the Ruler (Yang di-Pertuan) of the state of Negeri
Sembilan until 1931. According to the website of the
Malaysian National Archives, the building stands on
99 wooden pillars, each 19.9 metres high, and has four
central pillars, each made from a single tree and nearly 52
metres in height. It is held together by wooden pegs and
no nails were used in its construction. The building was
opened to the public as a Royal Museum in 1992.
