    The scientific theory and real-life practice of multilingualism have developed over the last few decades in almost opposite directions. In terms of scientific insights, a wealth of converging evidence suggests a wide range of positive effects of multilingualism across the lifespan, from school performance (Cummins 2000) and pupil well-being (M&amp;#xFC;ller et al. 2020), to slower cognitive ageing (Bak et al. 2014; Cox et al. 2016), delayed onset of dementia (Alladi et al. 2013)  and faster cognitive recovery after stroke (Alladi et al. 2016). Importantly, these positive effects do not require proficiency or perfection; on the contrary, they extend to language learning, with an improvement in attentional function observed

    The study of language policy and legal regulation of the state language in various countries from 1990 to 2020 was an important task in the context of globalisation and cultural interaction. In Kazakhstan, as in other multilingual states, language policy issues were of particular importance as they were related to the preservation of cultural identity and the maintenance of the national language in the face of increasing global change. The impact of globalisation on language policy in Central Asia was examined in detail in a study by Bahry (2020).   <title>Foreign languages taught in language high schools in Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto and Piedmont</title>

    Teaching foreign languages in language high schools is a crucial element in the education of students, preparing them to face an increasingly globalised and interconnected world. In Italy, regional language policies significantly influence which languages are taught and how teaching programmes are structured. This paper aims to analyse the foreign languages taught in the language high schools of four regions in Northern Italy: Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto and Piedmont. Through a detailed analysis of the languages taught and a description of the language policies adopted in each region, an  attempt will be made to highlight the peculiarities and similarities between the different regional approaches.
