Business organizations have been transforming their operations by understanding the customer purchase journey, tracking changes in customer expectations (Desmet et al., 2015), and leveraging evolving technologies and partners to meet customers’ service demands (Lusch et al., 2015). The customer purchase journey includes multiple phases. Initially, the pre-purchase phase involves learning about products, including service products, and evaluating options against their decision criteria (Simon, 1955). In a well-functioning healthcare system, the creation of value for patients or citizens (referred to here as clients) should determine the rewards for all other actors in the system (Porter, 1985). The integration of multiple actors, clinical and non-clinical, and their resources helps fulfill one or more value propositions that cumulatively support value creation (Vargo et al., 2017).
