139. Seal of Isaac
Location: North Rhine-Westphalia State Archives of Münster, Rietberg Collection, No. 196.
Also at Münster, reproduced here, is a document from April 8, 1402, sealed by the Jew Isaac: “Ich ysaac di yode” or “I ysaac [Isaac] the Jew” can still be clearly read at the beginning. Isaac arranges to reduce the sum of money owed him by three noblemen, Count Curt von Rietberg, Claus von Tecklenburg, and the Junker Johann von Rietberg, and then seals to authenticate his action. Only a wax lump now remains of the seal, showing neither device nor legend.
