138. Seal of Simon

Dimensions: unknown.

Location: North Rhine-Westphalia State Archives of Münster, Herford Prince Abbey No. 157.

The earliest Jewish seal at Münster is appended to a Latin document dated July 4, 1321, stating that Simon, Jew of Herford, acknowledges that he received as mortgage from the Abbess and Convent of Herford income from Herford and from the farm properties of Übbentrup, Stieghorst, and Vinnen of 185 marks for eight to ten years. There were originally two seals affixed to this document, but all that is left are some wax fragments. Not even their original size can be guessed at.
