Abstract

In order to evaluate the Slav reception of the works of Symeon the New Theologian, it is necessary to know not only what was translated but also what was not. The first part of the article therefore contains a brief outline of Symeon’s life and a survey of all of his works, while the second part gives a status quaestionis with regard to what is at present known about the translations. In conclusion, the question of whether it is possible to talk of a real reception of Symeon’s heritage in mediaeval Slavia orthodoxa is addressed.1
